I was trying to make them all pooofy, but they kept on doing their own
thing.
I used Ashbet's
method,
where you make a whole load of individual dreads, each with a little loop
at the top. I wanted to try and steam them so they wouldn't shrink up
so much, so I taped open a kettle and I steamed them (yes I know I'm ghetto)
then you take a section of your hair, divide that section into two parts,
one part is twice the size of the other part, and thread the bigger part
of hair throught the loop at the top of the dread. I didn't have a latchhook,
so I used a crochet needle (whcih worked just as well). then you divide
the bigger section of hair into two and braid it with the smaller section
of hair as a three way plait, with the dread at the base of the braid.
lucky for me my hair is so damaged that I didn't need to tie off the ends
of the braids with elastics, the hair just stayed braided. .
