Leila says: It is basically plastic lanyard (if that is what the flat plastic is called) threaded through (then knotted) onto a wig base I made myself. I made the base cos the material I used was perfect for lanyard plastic, ie tough and the fishnet-type holes the perfect size. I used 6 reels, some were not completely full, so approx 4-500 yards were used. The photo doesn't show the fact that not all the plastic was gathered into bunches, the back was in fact loose, mid back in length. The fishnet isnt quite the fishnet which you normally see - ie it is not stretchy and soft, but the pattern and thickness of thread is the same. The cloth is tough and plastic-y and has no stretchy what so ever. I got a piece from a stall in Birmingham - the market is now closed and relocated with half the stalls and it is no more (the stall I mean) - shame as it did get some pretty good stuff in from mesh to pothole . I doubt I will ever see it again. I basically wanted to make a hair-do like the Pepis I started to see in different clubs, but would never do anything permanent to my hair (except dying it black) cos of work, the cost and the fact I have bum length hair . The plastic totalled 25-30 ukp, the cloth 50p or there abouts. I made a pattern for the wig - similar to a close fitting cap, sewed abit of plastic around the edges to finish it off. I basically started with a circle, and cut pieces out to make it rounded/shape of head, and cut 2 hole for where my real hair would poke through, to anchor it to my head. It is very heavy - have yet to weigh it - when I first made I hated it, then I got used it and have worn it more, mostly because plastic is now more common I dont feel that I am being stared at as much ;\ and the neck does get used to the weight. |
